Top 10 Eastern European Players

jonjoward1998

A lot of the Eastern European players that arrive in the Premier League are relatively unknown as we don't know much about them.

But they soon made themselves known within a month or two of their arrival and a lot of them go on to make a big impact and become the best players in Europe.

Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal are the most recent players to have come from that region of Europe and both have made an impact at West Ham. But neither are in the list unfortunately.

Now here is the list:

Petr Cech

Luka Modric

Nemanja Vidic

Marko Arnautovic

Nemanja Matic

Christian Fuchs

Branislav Ivanovic

Dimitar Berbatov

Andrey Arshavin

Edin Dzeko

  1. Christian Fuchs

Fuchs had to be in 10th because he only had one good season which was the one where he won the Premier League with Leicester.

He was very good in that season just like the rest of the team were and we was arguably one the unsung heroes in team as he didn't get the credit that the likes of Vardy, Mahrez and Kante got.

He was a full back who was defensively strong and he could also get forward and pose a threat.

  1. Andrey Arshavin

Arshavin joined Arsenal about six months after impressing at Euro 2008 with Russia, where he was one of the players of the tournament.

His best days at Arsenal came in his first 18 months where he scored and created a lot of goals, including a four goal blitz against Liverpool. He was a winger who was quick and skilful.

He wasn't the same player after those 18 months as his form dropped off and later found first team opportunities limited.

  1. Marko Arnautovic

Arnautovic was a good all round forward when he was in the Premier League as he was quick, strong, could hold the ball up, and could play both out wide and as a centre forward.

He played mostly out wide when he was at Stoke where he impressed a lot and showed a lot of promise, particularly during the 2015/16 season where he scored 12 goals.

He was used more through the middle at West Ham which was where he arguably played his best football as he was used in a position that probably suited him best.

He was a player who had a lot of ability on his day, and it's surprising that none of the big clubs were ever interested in him.

  1. Edin Dzeko

Dzeko wasn't always a guaranteed starter at Man City because he was fighting it out with Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez for a place in the team.

But he did score a lot of important goals for them during his time there and especially in the seasons where City on the title in 2012 and 2014 respectively.

Those two seasons were his best in a City shirt as his goals in both played a key role in City winning the title in both seasons, and also made him a key player for them.

He was a striker who was great in the air, could hold the ball up and could score any kind of goal.

  1. Nemanja Matic

Matic was one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League on his day and especially when he was at Chelsea. He was a tough tackler, a good reader of the game, and could also dictate play in midfield.

He was a key player in both title winning sides he was part of at Chelsea in 2015 and 2017 respectively, but he was somewhat underrated as he didn't always get the credit he deserved.

He was that player quietly got on with his job without many people noticing whilst Hazard and Costa were getting all the plaudits.

He wasn't the same player when he was at Man United as he no longer had the legs and his best days were behind him.

  1. Luka Modric

Modric showed a lot of promise when he was at Spurs with his ability to carry the ball, create, and take control of games from midfield.

He helped Spurs go onto another level when he arrived and they were often a better team when he was available because of what he offered the team.

A lot of his good work did come after he left the Premier League, but his time at Spurs gave him the platform to go on and become the player we know him as today.

He's incredibly still playing at the age of 39 and is still a great player to watch.

  1. Dimitar Berbatov

Berbatov was stylish and silky striker on his day as he could do almost anything with the ball at his feet as well as score goals.

He was a very skilful player who had many tricks up his sleeve, including that 360 turn he performed against West Ham where he brilliantly kept the ball in play whilst performing that skill before setting up a goal.

He was a striker who scored some great goals during his time in the Premier League including his bicycle kick for Man United against Liverpool.

He won two Premier League titles with Man United and he also won a golden boot which he shared with Carlos Tevez in 2011.

  1. Branislav Ivanovic

Ivanovic was a good solid all-round full back when he was at Chelsea as he was good both offensively and defensively.

Not many wingers could get past him on his day because of how strong and physical he was defensively whilst going forward, he always offered threat and loved to nick the odd goal.

He was one of the best full backs in the Premier League on his day because of how good he was in both departments. But he was somewhat underrated as he hasn't been talked about as much as some of the other great Premier League full backs.

He won everything on offer at Chelsea including two Premier League titles in 2010 and 2015, both which he played he key role in.

  1. Nemanja Vidic

Vidic made a massive difference to Man United defensively when he arrived as he made them a much stronger team defensively.

He was a tough as nails defender on his day as he was strong and and a tough tackler. Not many attacking players could get past him because of this and his reading of the game.

He was also a leader and someone who made the players around him better, including Rio Ferdinand. Ferdinand was good before Vidic arrived, but Vidic made him a better defender and the two of them had such a strong partnership during their time together.

He won 5 Premier League titles at Man United and is right up there among the greatest centre backs in Premier League history.

  1. Petr Cech

Another top 10 won by a goalkeeper. I was always going to have Cech and Vidic in my top two, and I've gone with Cech at no.1 because I felt that he made more of an impact at Chelsea than Vidic did at United.

Cech conceded a record breaking 15 goals in his first season at Chelsea as they won the league in their first season under Jose Mourinho. He did have some good defenders front of him during that season, but his presence between the sticks made the blues a better team defensively.

He was always big presence between the sticks and someone who pulled off many top class saves right throughout his career to keep his team in games.

He did that many times at Chelsea where he was easily the best keeper in the Premier League and one of the best in Europe. He currently holds the record for most clean sheets in Premier League history.

MY TOP 10:

  1. Petr Cech

  2. Nemanja Vidic

  3. Branislav Ivanovic

  4. Dimitar Berbatov

  5. Luka Modric

  6. Nemanja Matic

  7. Edin Dzeko

  8. Marko Arnautovic

  9. Andrey Arshavin

  10. Christian Fuchs
