Premier League Predictions: Matchweek 27

jonjoward1998

TUESDAY:

BRIGHTON V BOURNEMOUTH

Brighton were ruthless against Southampton at the weekend and their win moved them to within three points of Europe.

I don't however see them as European contenders though because they pick up a lot of draws and are an inconsistent team.

Bournemouth on the other hand are European contenders and have been fairly strong away from home this season.

They've coped very well without their injured players and to make things even better, they're beginning to get them back which will give their season one massive boost.

I mentioned earlier that Brighton draw a lot of games and especially at home.

Both teams will go for it as they're both attack-minded and play on the front foot. But I think both will cancel each other out.

PREDICTION: 2-2

CRYSTAL PALACE V ASTON VILLA

The 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture back in November turned out to be a turning point in Crystal Palace's season as they later went on a five game unbeaten run, which lifted them out of the relegation zone and saw performances improve as well as results.

There was a lot of pressure on Glasner heading into that game and the improvement from his side since then has been incredible.

Aston Villa made slow starts in their previous two games against Liverpool and Chelsea, but their performances improved as both games went on.

Marcus Rashford has been a player reborn since he's been at Villa as he's playing with a smile on his face and is enjoying his football again.

He made such a difference when he came off the bench against Chelsea and following the impact he made, he'll be hoping that he starts this one.

This game is a tough one to predict as Palace haven't been as good at home as they have been away, and Villa haven't been as good away as they have been at home.

Both teams will score here as they both have some quality attacking players, but I'm going to sit on the fence and go for a draw.

PREDICTION: 2-2

WOLVES V FULHAM

Wolves won the reverse fixture 4-1 back in November after which a lot of people though they were going to kick on. But it didn't turn out that way as they soon found themselves back in the relegation zone and then-manager Gary O'Neil was later sacked.

They had an immediate bounce under Vitor Pereira but their results since then have been a bit mixed - 2 wins and 5 defeats since the managerial bounce ended.

Fulham have arguably been better away than they have been at home this season, but their results this season have been somewhat mixed.

They've had some good results throughout the season, but also some not so good ones like their defeat to Palace over the weekend.

I think this game will be close as both sides will go for it as they're both attack minded teams. But I think Wolves will just edge it with Cunha scoring the winner.

PREDICTION: 2-1

CHELSEA V SOUTHAMPTON

Chelsea will be glad to be back at home for this one as their form at home hasn't been as bad as their form on the road since Christmas.

The majority of their bad results since Christmas have come away from home so being back at home, where their results have been slightly better, may give them some confidence.

It's only a matter of time till Southampton's fate is sealed and I'm starting to think that they could be worse than the Derby side that got 11 points in 2007-08.

They were well beaten by Brighton at the weekend and I think Chelsea will beat them comfortably in this one as well.

PREDICTION: 4-0

WEDNESDAY:

BRENTFORD V EVERTON

Brentford had the best home record in the league earlier in the season, but since their unbeaten run at home ended their form at the Gtech has nearly been as bad as their away form was.

They haven't won at home since early December when they beat Newcastle and their record since then has been 4 defeats and a draw.

Everton were by far the better side in the first half against Man United and they'll be disappointed that they didn't see the game through in the second half.

They've been a completely different side since David Moyes came back and I think they'll keep up their good form with another win in this one.

PREDICTION: 1-3

MAN UNITED V IPSWICH

The reverse fixture was Ruben Amorim's first game in charge of Man United and in the games since, he will have learnt more about his side than he did in his first game.

He said that his team went missing in the first half against Everton and he's absolutely right because they simply didn't turn up.

They did improve in the second half by showing more intensity, but a lot of people were wondering why they couldn't play like that in the first half.

Ipswich put in a good shift against some of the big teams earlier in the season including in the reverse fixture. But they've been handed some heavy beating by them more recently, including their 4-1 defeat by Spurs at the weekend.

They might have a chance of getting something here as they've been better away than they have been at home, and United are on a terrible run of form at home - losing 5 of their last 6 at Old Trafford.

But I think United will put an end to that run and come away with the points here. Even though I don't think they'll play well.

PREDICTION: 2-1

NOTTINGHAM FOREST V ARSENAL

Nottingham Forest's Champions League aspirations will be put to the test over the next few weeks starting with this one followed by their next game against Man City in two weekends time.

They were much improved in the second half against Newcastle on Sunday where they were very close to nicking a point. They arguably deserved one given how they responded.

Arsenal's defeat at West Ham was a big opportunity missed for them and after Liverpool won their game against City, I think the Gunners' title hopes are all but done.

All they can do win is try and win every game till the end of the season hoping that Liverpool slip up along the way.

But I don't see that happening because of their current crisis and their lack of a striker.

Forest have the latter in Chris Wood and I can see him bag the winner here to give Forest the points.

PREDICTION: 1-0

TOTTENHAM V MAN CITY

Spurs battered City 4-0 in the reverse fixture back in November in what was their best performance of the season by an absolute mile.

Ange Postecoglou's side come into this game off the back of three successive wins in the league which have risen them up the table.

Man City had a lot of possession against Liverpool but didn't really do anything with it because of how organised Liverpool were.

Spurs will look to do what Liverpool did in hitting City on the counter which they did many times during the game.

With City missing one or two key players in their defence, I think Spurs can exploit that with their pace and work rate off the ball.

I don't think they'll win this one as comfortably as they did at the Etihad, but I still think win and cause City a number of problems.

PREDICTION: 2-1

LIVERPOOL V NEWCASTLE

These two will meet in the Carabao Cup final in a few weeks time which makes this game feel like a warm up for the big one next month.

Liverpool were outstanding to a man against Man City on Sunday where they were happy to soak up the City pressure and hit them on the counter. The plan worked to a T.

That result pretty much guaranteed them the title as they're now 11 points clear and Arsenal are very unlikely to catch up. Well that's how I see it.

Newcastle put in a dominant display in the first half against Forest but were made to hold on in the second half as Forest responded very well to going 4-1 down.

They'll need to play well over the whole 90 minutes if they're to get something here because a good performance for half a game won't be enough against a top side like Liverpool.

This game should be close as they're both attack minded teams, but I think Liverpool will have just enough to see the result over the line.

PREDICTION: 2-1

THURSDAY:

WEST HAM V LEICESTER

West Ham got a massive win at the weekend against Arsenal which is a result that Graham Potter's side need to build on in order to find some much needed consistency.

The reverse fixture was Ruud Van Nistelrooy's first game in charge of Leicester which they won 3-1 back in December.

Since then the Foxes have got worse as they're conceding goals for fun and barely scoring any at the other. They look set for a straight return to the Championship.

They looked all over the place at the back against Brentford during which a number of their fans left the stadium early, whilst some protested against the board and understandably so.

West Ham haven't scored a great deal of goals this season, but I still think they'll punish the defensive mistakes that the Foxes make and win this game without too many problems.

PREDICTION: 3-1
