Premier League Predictions: Matchweek 19

jonjoward1998

SUNDAY:

LEICESTER V MAN CITY

Leicester gave Liverpool an early scare on Boxing Day before the latter showed their quality to win the game and send the Foxes back into the relegation zone.

Poor defending let them down once again in that game and they now have the joint worst defence in the league along with Wolves.

Man City started brightly in their game against Everton on Boxing Day but they weren't able to build on it.

They look like a side who have no confidence at the moment and you being to wonder if they'll ever get it back.

But having said that I think they'll get it back in this one as they have good enough players to punish a defensively feeble Leicester.

With the way that the Foxes have been defending recently, I think City will have more than enough quality to win this one and get their confidence back.

PREDICTION: 1-3

CRYSTAL PALACE V SOUTHAMPTON

Bar from that defeat to Arsenal before Christmas, Crystal Palace have shown signs of improvement this past month following a difficult start.

Eberechi Eze returned to the side in their draw at Bournemouth on Boxing Day and if they can keep him fir, the Eagles should hopefully start pushing up the league.

Southampton look good as gone and if they fail to get something from this game, I'm going to start wondering if they'll be worse than Derby from the 2007-08 season.

They had chances in Ivan Juric's first game in charge against West Ham on Boxing Day, but they missed them all and a striker will surely be near the top of Juric's shopping list in January.

It's been a while since I last predicted Crystal Palace to win and with Southampton struggling and low on confidence, I'm going to back the Eagles here.

PREDICTION: 3-1

EVERTON V NOTTINGHAM FOREST

Everton have picked up three well earnt draws in each of their last three games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City.

No one expected them to get points from any of those games tough games at the start of the run-in, but they did and Sean Dyche's side would've 100% taken them.

Nottingham Forest were fighting to avoid relegation this time last season and now they fighting for Champions League football. What a year a difference makes.

They're more of a team than they were in each of the last two seasons and their improvement defensively has also played a major role in their rise this season.

Nuno's side are yet to beat Everton since their return to the top flight in 2022 and this represents their best chance of doing that because of the form they're in.

But with Everton being a tough side to beat and grinding out results, and I think the points will be shared here.

PREDICTION: 1-1

FULHAM V BOURNEMOUTH

Marco Silva deserves a lot of credit for the job he's done at Fulham and it's about time he gets some. Him and Fulham are a perfect fit as the expectations are reasonably low and a good place for a to rebuild himself. He's done that after a tough spell at Everton a few years ago.

Andoni Iraola also deserves credit for the job he's done at Bournemouth and their league position can back that up. The Cherries are 6th in the league and level points with 5th placed Newcastle.

This game will definitely be open as they both play front footed and attacking football. Both teams will be score, but I think Fulham will be the side that come out on top because they're at home where they have a strong record.

PREDICTION: 3-2

TOTTENHAM V WOLVES

Spurs come into this game without a recognised central defender with Radu Dragusin joining Micky Van De Ven and Cristian Romero on the side-lines, after picking up a knock against Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day.

Ange Postecoglou's side do have a lot of injuries and it's the defence that is the most effected area. Ben Davies is also out injured alongside the three central defenders.

Wolves did the double over Spurs last season and they'll fancy themselves to get another win over them in this one after making a strong start under Vitor Pereira.

They won and kept clean sheets in both of Pereira's first two games in charge, and the clean sheets were arguably the most important because of how much they've struggled defensively this season.

Pereira has also got them playing with a freedom and that freedom has given the team confidence to get results. I can see that continuing here against an out of sorts Spurs side.

PREDICTION: 1-2

WEST HAM V LIVERPOOL

West Ham come into this game on the back off a four game unbeaten run and you could say that it has eased the pressure on Julen Lopetegui. But they still lack a clear way of playing.

Liverpool beat the Hammers in the Carabao Cup earlier in the season and comfortably. I think they'll win this one comfortably too.

Arne Slot has used his squad very well this season and I think he'll make changes in this one to keep his squad fresh.

Mo Salah will not be one of those players who gets rotated with the form he's in and I can only see him bag another in this one.

PREDICTION: 1-3

MONDAY:

ASTON VILLA V BRIGHTON

Aston Villa will have Ollie Watkins back up front for this one with Jhon Duran suspended following his harsh red card against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Villa crushed Brighton 6-1 in this fixture last season where Watkins netted a hat trick. He may back himself to bag another in this one as Brighton's high line is exploitable.

Brighton have played some good football under Fabian Hurzeler this season, but their recent form is a worry as they haven't won any of their last six league games.

I think that run will be extended here as Villa have players who can run in behind their high line and hurt them. Including Ollie Watkins who I'm backing to score here.

PREDICTION: 3-1

IPSWICH V CHELSEA

Ipswich are the only side without a win at home this season with both of their wins this season coming on the road.

Kieran McKenna's side have done well to stay in games for much of the season and they did so again last night against Arsenal.

Chelsea's title hopes have taken a hit recently following a draw and a defeat from their last two games against Everton and Fulham respectively.

Those results will be seen more as a reality check and Enzo Maresca will certainly agree with that because of the amount of times he's played down Chelsea's title hopes.

I think they'll return to winning ways here and they should have enough quality in their side to win this game.

PREDICTION: 0-2

MAN UNITED V NEWCASTLE

Man United were awful all over the pitch against Wolves and the defending for Wolves' second was just terrible as there was only one defender back in the lead up to it.

Bruno Fernandes' red card certainly didn't help and he'll be suspended for this game as a result. His absence will be a big blow for United as he's their most creative player.

Newcastle don't have a great record at Old Trafford with their last win there coming back in 2013. But I do think they'll do something about it in this one because of the form they're in.

Alexander Isak is still on fire and with the form he's in I fancy him to bag another goal.

PREDICTION: 0-3

NEW YEARS DAY

BRENTFORD V ARSENAL

Brentford's last home game saw their unbeaten record at home come to end after losing to Nottingham Forest. But that result won't harm their home form one bit as it's only one result.

Arsenal won their first game without Bukayo Saka last night when they beat Ipswich, but the game itself wasn't straightforward.

This game won't be straightforward for them either as Brentford have a great record at home and are a side who can make it difficult for teams.

I can see them do that to Arsenal in this one.

PREDICTION: 1-1
