Could Antonee Robinson be Liverpool's long-term replacement for Andy Robertson?
Antonee Robinson has been one of the best full backs in the Premier League over the past year and he's arguably been the best this season. He had an excellent all-round game against Liverpool as he set up both goals and made some crucial blocks defensively.
Could he be Liverpool's long-term replacement for Andrew Robertson?
Robinson has been recently linked with a move to Liverpool as Robertson's replacement with the latter now 30 and heading into the latter stages of his career.
Robertson was sent off in the draw between Liverpool and Fulham after which some Liverpool fans said on social media that he's not the player he was a few years ago. Those fans do have a point as he's not getting as many assists as he used to. He's still running up and down that left hand side, but his numbers in terms of assists and chances created have dropped over the past year and a half.
Robinson on the other hand already has six assists to his name this season which is the same amount he got last season. He's also excellent defensively and his ability to be effective both defensively and offensively could make him a key asset for Liverpool should they get him.
If he keeps up the current form he's in for the rest of the season, Liverpool may think about buying him in the summer knowing that Robertson is now heading into the latter years of his career.
Wolves decision to sack O'Neil not at all surprising
Wolves finally sacked Gary O'Neil over the weekend following their defeat to Ipswich which was their fourth loss in a row. The decision itself was one I was not at all surprised with because he's been under a lot of pressure, his side have the worst defence in the league and he lost connection with his team.
The latter definitely because in his post-match interview, O'Neil said that his team were at a certain level and was referring to them as 'them' instead of 'we'. After listening to his post-match interview, I immediately thought to myself that he's lost that connection with his players.
Things began to fall about for Wolves after their defeat at West Ham where their players were scrapping it out with the opposition players and coaching staff after the full time whistle. It was the same again against Ipswich.
In all fairness to him though, he wasn't really backed in the transfer market to bring in new players during the summer. Wolves lost two of their best players in Max Kilman and Pedro Neto, but neither were replaced and that was what cost him.
Is Amad Diallo Man United's new talisman?
This season has been far from perfect for Man United because of where they are in the league and the form they've been in this season. But if there is one player who can have his head held high, it's Amad Diallo.
Diallo has arguably been United's best player this season and especially since Ruben Amorim took over. He put in another good display in the Manchester Derby on Sunday as he won the penalty from which the first goal was scored and scored the winning goal himself.
With the performances he's been putting in this season, is he becoming Man United's talisman?
We shouldn't really be calling him United's main man as he's still very young and shouldn't be put under too much pressure. But he has been playing like it as he's been the only one who has stepped up on the most occasions this season.
He impressed at wing-back in United's first two games under Amorim against Ipswich and Everton and against United, he was used further up the pitch which is where he is arguably better off.
If he continues to impress and step up when no one else does, he could well become United's new talisman.
Russell Martin got what was coming
Southampton's 5-0 defeat to Spurs turned out to be the final straw for Russel Martin as he was sacked not long after the game. All five of the goals were scored in the first half during which he walked down the tunnel before half time.
The decision to sack him was one that was coming because the Saints have picked up just five points all season and when you pick up that amount of points at this stage of a season, the inevitable is bound to happen.
His team were very naïve in the way they played as they kept on making the same mistakes week in week out and especially when playing out from the back. Martin was clearly a manager who was willing to stick to his principles and some people can admire that, but in the Premier League, you need to be able to adapt and Martin's inability to be adaptable ended up costing him his job.
Southampton have struggled to compete since their return to the Premier League as they've scored the fewest amount of goals and conceded a lot of goals as well. These stats alongside his inability to be adaptable are what cost him his job.
