FA Cup 5th Round Predictions

jonjoward1998

FRIDAY:

ASTON VILLA V CARDIFF

Aston Villa haven't been in the best of form since the turn of the year, but their record at home has been very impressive. They've lost just once at home all season in all competitions.

Unai Emery's side should definitely look to win the cup this season and they're more than capable of reaching the latter rounds with the quality they have, and also most of the big six have been knocked out which gives them a great opportunity.

Cardiff are battling for survival in the Championship this season with the Bluebirds currently six points above the drop zone.

They have had some good results over the past month which have lifted them out of the relegation zone, but they did get hammered 7-0 by Leeds earlier in the month.

Villa will probably make changes for this game as they'll want to rest players ahead of their busy schedule next week where they have both Premier League and Champions League games to deal with.

But I don't see them making too many and because of that, I think they'll win this one fairly comfortably.

PREDICTION: 3-0

SATURDAY:

CRYSTAL PALACE V MILLWALL

Crystal Palace have been one of the in-form teams in the Premier League since the turn of the year and they kept up their good form with another impressive win against Aston Villa on Tuesday.

Oliver Glasner will probably make changes to his team for this game because of it being a cup tie against a team in a lower league.

But I hope he doesn't make too many because the Eagles should look to go far in this competition as they have nothing to play for in the Premier League.

Millwall are arguably the Championship's version of Palace in that they're good enough to avoid relegation, but not good enough to push up the league.

It's been an up and down season for the lions so far but they are in a race for a play off spot as they're only six points off those places.

Alex Neil's side won't make it easy for Palace as they're a side who are tough to beat and can also hit teams on the counter.

But I think the Eagles' Premier League quality will shine through here.

PREDICTION: 2-0

PRESTON V BURNLEY

Both games between these two sides ended goalless in the Championship and the neutrals will no doubt want some goals this time round.

But it could be more of the same as both teams don't score many.

A lot of Preston's games this season have been low scoring and they've never really been a side who are free flowing.

Burnley's defensive record this season has simply been exceptional but like Preston, they aren't a side who score many goals.

They did however put four past Sheffield Wednesday last weekend which will give their forward players heading into this game.

I'm not expecting there to be many goals here, but I do think one team will score and I think it will be Burnley.

PREDICTION: 0-1

BOURNEMOUTH V WOLVES

Bournemouth have hit a bump in the road recently following back to back defeat to Wolves and Brighton in the Premier League.

Those defeats shouldn't damage the season they're having though as it's only a short blip and they have the chance here to reinstall that confidence they had.

Wolves won this fixture last weekend in the Premier League courtesy of a Matheus Cunha goal, but they were helped massively by Bournemouth having a player sent off.

I thought they would build on that win against Fulham in midweek, but it wasn't to be as they were not at the races.

Both sides will want to go far in the cup this season so they have some momentum to take into their quests for European football and survival respectively.

Both teams will score as they both have goals in them. But I think Bournemouth will be the side that makes into the next round.

PREDICTION: 2-1

MAN CITY V PLYMOUTH

The FA Cup is Man City's last chance to end the season with a trophy as they're out of the Champions League, and are long out of the race to win the Premier League.

They should've killed Spurs off in the first half on Wednesday with the chances they had, but they did enough to hold on for the win in the second half.

Plymouth have already knocked out two Premier League sides in the FA Cup this season in Brentford and Liverpool, and those results will give them a lot of confidence heading into this game.

Their results and performances have improved since Miron Muslic replaced Wayne Rooney last month, but they still remain in the bottom three of the Championship.

The Brentford and Liverpool sides they knocked out in the previous rounds both made wholesale changes and they took advantage of that.

They'll no doubt believe that they can cause another upset here, but with City likely to play a strong team like they usually do in this competition, I think they'll avoid becoming Argyle's third scalp.

PREDICTION: 4-1

SUNDAY:

NEWCASTLE V BRIGHTON

Newcastle looked passive against Liverpool midweek even though they did create one or two decent chances.

Alexander Isak was a big miss as they looked toothless in attack. Callum Wilson looked rusty and short of match sharpness on the night which is understandable as he hasn't played a lot this season.

With most of the big six out of the FA Cup, Newcastle will feel that they have an opportunity to win it and it's an opportunity they can't afford to waste.

Brighton come into this cup tie off the back of a four game winning streak in all competitions which started off with their win over Chelsea in the last round.

They reached the semi finals two seasons ago and they'll believe that they can go that far again this season. They have a good enough squad to do so and an exciting young manager who has done a decent job so far.

Both teams will definitely score here as they both have goals in them. Newcastle have looked off it a bit in recent games, but I think they'll still get the job done and book their place in the next round.

PREDICTION: 2-1

MAN UNITED V FULHAM

Man United picked up a crucial win against Ipswich in midweek and although it wasn't an ideal performance from them, they still showed character to get the win.

Ruben Amorim's side did the double over Fulham in the Premier League this season winning both games 1-0, but they weren't exactly convincing both games.

There have been a lot of games this season where United haven't been convincing in all fairness, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Fulham have never won the FA Cup and this season might be their best chance to do so because of the squad they have, and the fact that most of the big six are already out.

They'll probably be the more convincing side on the day in that they'll probably create the better chances and play the better football.

But I think Man United will somehow find a way to win without being at their best. Like they were in both Premier League games.

PREDICTION: 1-0

MONDAY:

NOTTINGHAM FOREST V IPSWICH

Nottingham Forest needed penalties to get past Exeter in the last round and they haven't won in the Premier League since.

They got a creditable draw against Arsenal in midweek by being very well organised. But they might feel disappointed that they didn't make the most of Arsenal's profligacy in front of goal.

Ipswich are without a win since the turn of the year in the Premier League and a win in this cup tie could give them the confidence to help them get off the mark in 2025.

A run in the cup has given teams the momentum to kick start their domestic seasons in the past and that is exactly what Ipswich need in their battle to avoid relegation.

Both teams will probably make changes here as they'll want to rest players for the Premier League which is more important.

Both teams could do with a win to kickstart their seasons and I think Forest will be the team that books their place in the next round because they have more quality.

PREDICTION: 2-0
